Finding Peace in a Frantic World Course

Getting frantic in today’s world is not difficult but finding some peace can seem almost impossible! By practicing mindfulness we can learn to live with greater ease and enjoyment.

Research shows that mindfulness learned within a structured programme can be incorporated into our daily life to help break the cycle of anxiety, stress, unhappiness and exhaustion. It promotes a sense of appreciation for life and gives us the skills to live with greater kindness and presence.

The course consists of eight sessions and you’ll use gentle but powerful practices to uncover and put into practice the innate resources that you have to live your life feeling calmer yet more vital, more confident and more resilient.

You will learn practical mindful techniques and simple meditation practices, all interwoven with group discussions to find your own personal pathway to living life with greater ease. You’ll explore what it means to live more fully in the present moment, and how doing so actually helps you in dealing with life’s challenges. You’ll look at what stress is, how it affects the body and mind, and apply knowledge from ancient teachings and modern neuroscience to live a happier and healthier life and increase enjoyment.

Course Content

What can I expect?

These courses consist of 8 weekly sessions each lasting 1.5 hours.  The primary aims are to help you develop an in-depth experience of mindfulness and build the foundations of a sustained meditation practice that you can use in your daily life and professional work to enhance your health and wellbeing.

The course evolved from the Oxford Mindfulness Centre and was developed by the respected mindfulness teacher, Professor Mark Williams. Before our first session, you read chapters 1-4 of the book “Finding Peace in a Frantic World”. Each session has a specific theme and lasts 90 minutes. You will be guided through some formal mindfulness practices and can ask any questions you have about them. We’ll take time to discuss the topic for that week.

Between sessions, you read that week’s chapter of the same book, and use the accompanying CD to do the practices that go with that chapter. Daily practice takes between 15 and 20 minutes. Reading the chapters will take a bit of time, too, but the book is an easy, enjoyable and informative read.

An additional guided silent day is offered to immerse yourself more in the practices.

Commitment

While you’ll need to plan in some time for practice on most days as well as attending the weekly sessions, it is completely do-able. Each class is 90 minutes and the daily practice is about 20 minutes.

A short informal telephone conversation before registering on the course is required to answer any questions you may have and to discuss whether the course is right for you at this time.
